Willliam King Daugherty

The Rev. Dr. William (Bill) King Daugherty, 79, of Frisco, Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 surrounded by his family at Provident Alzheimer's Care Center in McKinney, Texas. Bill was born in Denton, Texas on Jan 13, 1931 to William & Ruth Daugherty. He graduated from Pecos High School in 1949. In 1950, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Marilea Finley, in Pecos, TX. Bill served in the United States Air Force for four years. At the time of his honorable discharge, he was a Staff Sargent at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, Texas. After leaving the military, Bill earned a Bachelor of Science in Business at UT Austin, a Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University in 1964 and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Accounting and Management in 1969 at the University of Texas in Austin. Because of his unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Bill went on to earn an additional Bachelor's degree which was in Psychology at the age of 60. In 1986, he was ordained into the Episcopal Church's Sacred Order of Priests. He served at St. James Episcopal Church in Alpine, TX. He also served as clergy in the Trans-Pecos/Big Bend Regional Ministry which serves Alpine, Marfa, Fort Stockton, Presidio, Van Horn, Lajitas, and Terlingua Ranch. Bill held several professional credentials including: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Internal Auditor, and Certified Data Processor. Significant professional committees and offices he has held include: Computer Education Subcommittee of the American Institute of Public Accountants, Committee on Environmental Effects of Organizational Behavior of the American Accounting Association, and member of the Board of Directors and President of the El Paso Chapter of Internal Auditors. On the community level, Bill was instrumental in the organizing, licensing, and accrediting of the Hospice of the Big Bend. He has been president, a member of the board, and a hospice volunteer. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Edwin King Daugherty, and his parents William and Ruth Daugherty. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilea Daugherty, his daughters, Patricia Dixon of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Rene Gill of Frisco, TX, and his sister, Sara Jo Smallwood of Los Angeles, CA. Bill was blessed with three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bill will be cremated in Frisco, Texas. Interment and a memorial service will take place at Pecos Cemetery in August 2010.
