IN LOVING MEMORY

William R. Nethery

Oct 08 1933 - Sep 12 2019

William "Bill" R. Nethery of Richardson, Texas passed away on September 12, 2019 at the age of 85. He was born on October 8, 1933 to R.T. and Alice (Mann) Nethery in Brownsville, Tennessee. His mother and father preceded him in death, as did his sister, Mary Alice Newman. Bill graduated from high school in Memphis, Tennessee and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Janice Hudson on March 3, 2000 in Murray, Texas. The quintessential self-made man, Bill was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of the First National Bank of Allen on July 1, 1981 now known as American National Bank of Texas and he retired in the year 2000, continuing to work as a business development officer until 2004. He was formerly employed by Richardson Heights Bank and Trust where he served as Senior Vice President and Secretary of the Board. Prior to that, Bill had been with Trinity National Bank.

Bill’s religious faith was personal, genuine, deep rooted, and steadfast. Impeccable character and integrity defined Bill Nethery. He had a natural talent in making friendships; people were drawn to him. He was not judgmental in business or his personal life and believed that hard work and trust were essential. Bill’s heart was focused in helping others and encouraged his employees to do the same. Some of those benefiting from his service were Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Kiwanis Club, and the Advisory Board for Citizens Adult Probation Committee.

Bill loved his work and supported his community. As well as serving on the Allen Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Bill was the winner of the Allen Chamber’s Pacesetter Award and the Chairman’s Award. He was a lifetime member of Rotary International and a Paul Harris Fellow. Bill served on the Board of Trustees of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Allen and the Board of Directors of Southwest Academy of Allen, and for many years organized and hosted an annual fund-raising golf tournament for the benefit of Southwest Academy.

One of his proudest achievements was to serve on the Collin County Grand Jury, which he considered a privilege. His civic outreach and volunteering was led by example; he was private in his works and good deeds; public attention was not his goal.

Bill was an avid sportsman, hunter, and fisherman. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited for many years. Always on the go, he played tennis, racquetball, golf, and snow skied as often as possible. He served as Canyon Creek Country Club Chairman for one term and remained an active member there for 40 years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Janice of Richardson, Texas; sons, Richard Nethery and wife, Vickie of Memphis, Tennessee, and William Royce Nethery, II of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter, Allison Borchardt and husband, Mack of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Alexa and Mackenzie Borchardt.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Grand Brook and Anchor of Hope for their compassionate care of Bill during his final months.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or the charity of your choice.
