It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Fletcher, who died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 12, 2026, at the age of 88. His life was well-lived, and we remember it with profound gratitude and love.
Born on August 7, 1937, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bill was the son of Margaret Manuel (née Way) and Joseph Fletcher. Family was the center of Bill’s life. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Joanne, his steadfast partner, with whom he built a home filled with laughter and shared dreams. Their marriage, which began on June 2, 1962, in Bridgeport, brought four children: Kristen Ducatelli (Tom) of Westlake, Texas, Matthew Fletcher of New York City, Mark Fletcher (Jennifer) of West Simsbury, Connecticut, and Douglas Fletcher (Lea) of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bill is also survived by his siblings, Janet Fischer, Robert Fletcher, Sharon Willoughby, Judy Manuel, and Betsy Manuel; and his grandchildren, Alex Ducatelli, Jack Fletcher, Harrison Fletcher, and Julianne Fletcher, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Peter Manuel; and his cherished grandson, Andrew “Drew” Ducatelli.
Bill was a man of remarkable intellect and gentle spirit, with a quick wit and always a funny story ready to share. He shared a decades-long love for the word game Scrabble, which he played online daily. He had a deep appreciation for American history and was a charter member of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. An avid collector of rare stamps and a member of the American Philatelic Society, he also loved American lithographic print art, which adorned his home and often sparked conversation with visitors.
In his professional life, Bill was known for his dedication and accomplishments. After graduating from Shelton High School in 1955, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA in accounting from the University of Bridgeport. He worked as an accountant and comptroller for businesses in Connecticut and the Dallas–Fort Worth area for more than 40 years until his retirement.
For three decades, Bill was a devoted member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Community and a pillar of the parish. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2026 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 110 St. Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas 75071.
