William E. Lindsay

Dec 25 1935 - Jul 04 2024

William Edward Lindsay, age 88, passed away July 4, 2024, in McKinney, Texas.  He was born on December 25, 1935, in Ames, Iowa to his loving parents Robert Evlyn Lindsay and Bernice Flora (Wessel) Lindsay.

Bill attended elementary school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and enjoyed being a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. Bill continued this involvement during junior high through the First Methodist Church, Bartlesville, OK. At Camp McClintock, he was generally known for his campfire cooking skills.  He continued being active in the Scout Program through high school, achieving Eagle Scout status.  As an Explorer Scout, he attended the first National Jamboree after World War II, at Valley Forge, 1952 then attended a second National Jamboree in Irvine, California.  It was at this point Bill even considered Scouting as a career but chose the college path instead. He received an associate degree in ’54 from Central Christian College (Bartlesville), then his bachelor’s degree in business administration, minoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management (1956) from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma which is now Oklahoma State University.  After college, Bill proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Benghazi, Libya, Berlin, Germany, and Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

Bill met his wife, Janet Branom, and they married in June 1960.  Raising their two sons Jeffrey and Brett brought them many years of joy and countless cherished memories.

Bill was a truly vibrant and engaging person and enjoyed life to the fullest.  He brought a lot of happiness to those around him with his cheerful personality and love for practical jokes. He was always a delight to be around. Bill loved sports as a spectator and avidly followed his favorite teams.  Fishing and traveling were his escapes, allowing him to unwind, immerse himself in nature, and explore new places.  Bill really enjoyed cooking, sharing his delicious meals with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Edward Lindsay (Suzanne), of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Brett Edward Lindsay (Shannon), of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Morgan and Lucas; sisters Linda Vincent, of Texas, and Charis Patswald, and Barbara Bates, both of Oklahoma; and many other loving family members and friends, who will miss him dearly.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bernice (Wessel) Lindsay; wife, Janet (Branom) Lindsay; second wife, Agnes (Gonzalez) Lindsay; and brother, Chuck Lindsay.
