William Dean (Bill) Parsons passed away at age 88 on May 2, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Allen, Texas. Bill, also known as Coach Parsons, was born September 3, 1936 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Nina M. (Perkins) and Henry Orval Parsons, and baby brother to Dolas Parsons, Vernon Parsons, Fern (Parsons) Harris, Clifford A. Parsons, Norma Parsons, and Melva (McClure) Parsons. Bill was predeceased by all of his siblings and his wife, Donna Kay Parsons. Bill is survived by his daughter, Kathryn R. (Parsons) Avellanet and husband, Bruce; son, Clifford H. Parsons and wife, Melissa; granddaughter, Shauna R. Budjenska and husband, Matt; granddaughter, Caroline K. Parsons; granddaughter, Claire E. Parsons; great-granddaughters, Hannah L. Budjenska and Bryn R. Budjenska; sisters-in-law, Jean Parsons and Norma Hasley, and a host of other family and dear friends.
Bill graduated from Sulphur High School in Sulphur, Oklahoma and attended college at Northeastern State University (NSU) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he met and married the love of his life, Donna Kay (Hasley) Parsons in 1959. Bill started his 35 year career as a high school teacher, football and baseball coach at Ysleta High School in El Paso, Texas, then transferred to Bel Air High School in El Paso for several years, then returned to complete his teaching and coaching career at Ysleta High School until he retired and relocated to Allen, Texas shortly thereafter.
Bill was very spirited and had a profound impact on the lives of many of his fellow coaches and students, in addition to being a role model and wonderful example for his family and friends. He took great pride and delight in his children and everyone in his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, golfing, fishing, betting on horse races and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, Bill attended and served at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Lucas, Texas with his wife, and formerly attended First United Methodist Church of Allen, Texas. Bill was a firm believer in Christ and his faith carried him through life and comforted him at his death.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Lucas, Texas. Please contact the church for streaming details.
