William Earl "Willie" Campbell

Nov 18 1938 - Jul 29 2005

William Earl "Willie" Campbell age 66, passed away peacefully at his residence in McKinney, Texas on Friday, July 29, 2005. He was born November 18, 1938 in Fort Griffin, Texas to Windell Earl and Peggy Joyce (Blankenship) Campbell, both deceased. Willie graduated from Electra High School in Electra, TX in 1956 where he met the love of his life, Hazel Yvonne Payton. They were married in 1958 and moved to Dallas, TX in 1960, where he began a 33-year career with Texas Instruments in Dallas, including a 2-year stint in Singapore. He graduated in 1968 with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Mathematics and Physics from the University of Texas at Arlington, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science in 1976 from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. He attained the honor of Texas Instruments’ Member Group Technical Staff in 1985. Willie had a special gift for teaching and was an instructor at Computer Data Institute, Richland Jr. College, Collin County Community College and the University of Texas at Dallas. After retiring from TI, Willie and Yvonne became software consultants and had the opportunity to travel and work in many parts of the country, including Alaska, Kansas, Missouri, Florida, Arkansas and Ohio. He was known for his exceptional ability with software and computers and served as the “PC Doctor” for many family members and friends. His many loving relatives, lifelong friends and miniature dachshunds, Gus and Woodrow, will dearly miss him. Willie had many, many friends from Wesley United Methodist Church in McKinney where he was a member. Willie successfully fought colon cancer in 2003, but was unable to survive the aggressive lung cancer, which was diagnosed in March of this year. The family is deeply appreciative of the compassionate care and support of Dr. Kirby and his staff at the North Texas Regional Cancer Center in Plano, TX. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Hazel Yvonne of McKinney, TX, his daughter Pamela Chris Gerritsen and her husband Gary of Austin, TX, his son Christopher Clay Campbell and his wife Suzanne and his grandsons Ryan Payton Campbell and Mark Christopher Campbell of McKinney, TX, his brother Johnny Lee Campbell and his wife Pennie of Wichita Falls, TX, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a great-granddaughter. Visitation with family will be held at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in McKinney on Sunday, July 31 from 4 – 6 pm, and services will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church in McKinney on Monday, August 1 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in honor of William Earl be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church of McKinney, TX, the American Lung Association, or the American Cancer Society. Husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, teacher and friend ---Willie’s presence on this earth touched our lives and made us better. We will deeply miss his wise counsel, infectious laugh, zest for life and compassionate support.
