Wenona Recer Carman, age 92, of McKinney, Texas passed away September 18, 2022. She was born May 21, 1930 in Climax, Texas to Jess Roy Recer and Letha Mae (Crawley) Recer. Wenona was raised and attended grade school in the Climax/Womble area. She later attended Princeton, Texas High School and graduated from there in 1948. Very soon after graduation, and while still in her teens, Wenona was employed by the Collin County National Bank in McKinney. This began a distinguished banking career that spanned almost 38 years. She retired in 1987 as Vice President and Director of Bank Marketing for Texas American Bank. She graduated in 1972 from Southwestern Graduate School of Banking, Class #13, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, one of only 4 women in a graduating class of 250. During her illustrious banking career, Wenona served on numerous local and national Boards and Foundations, including the Main Street Committee for the City of McKinney, several positions in the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, Texas A&M Extension Service, United Way Board and served several terms as Trustee of the Heard-Craig Foundation and Heard Museum. She was a charter member of the McKinney Community Concerts Board and served as President of the Eldorado Ladies Association. In 1974/75, she served as President of the National Association of Bank Women, presiding at the National Meeting in Hawaii.
Wenona married Charles Eddy Carman on May 8, 1954 in Princeton, Texas. Both Charles and Wenona joined the First United Methodist Church in McKinney that same year and both sang in the Chancel Choir there. Singing in the choir was a great joy for both Wenona and Charles. Wenona participated in many positions with the church. In retirement she enjoyed traveling, cooking, entertaining and volunteering.
Wenona is survived by her husband, Charles; nieces, Lana Grantham and family, Sara Recer, Carol Beene and husband Jeff and family, and cousin, Dr. Ben D. Craver and family, and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess Roy and Letha Mae (Crawley) Recer: brother, Clifford E. Recer; and sister-in-law, Betty Recer.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
