Weldon Ray Howell of Garland, Texas passed away February 12, 2022, after a long series of health issues, including Parkinson’s disease. He was born in 1928, the oldest child of Herschel B. Howell and Leona Mae Massey Howell.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy following graduation from high school in Anna, TX. After his Navy tour, he enrolled in East Texas State College, Commerce, TX, however, college was interrupted when the war between North and South Korea began and he rejoined the Navy. He received his discharge from the Navy on October 28, 1951, and he and his college sweetheart, Juandell Bowers, were married upon his return. They moved to Lubbock, TX, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Texas Technological College. The next move was to El Paso, TX, and he became employed at White Sands Missile Range, NM until retirement. In 2007 they moved to Garland, TX.
Weldon was preceded in death by grandparents, parents, wife, and three sisters; Billie Carroll, Betty Nicholson, and Robbie Howell. He is survived by two sisters; Sue Kyte and Martha (Yoshi) Tonomura; and numerous nieces and nephews.
