IN LOVING MEMORY

Wanda Lou Wyrick

Dec 16 1948 - Sep 05 2017

Wanda “Lou” (Burkhart) Wyrick of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 5, 2017 at the age of 68. She was born on December 16, 1948 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Eunie and Atha (Brown) Burkhart. Lou married Jon Wyrick on October 31, 1981 in Athens, Texas, which blended their families of two daughters each into one.

Lou is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jon Wyrick of Plano, Texas; daughters, Tami (Heath) Holcomb and husband, Jason of Cooper, Texas, Misty (Michell) Nolan and husband, Mike of Dallas, Texas, Jeni (Wyrick) Garrett and husband, Brent of Plano, Texas, Amy (Wyrick) Martens and husband, Bill of Colleyville, Texas; grandchildren, Will Holcomb and wife, Pam of San Antonio, Texas, Nate Holcomb of Commerce, Texas, Trey Holcomb of Cooper, Texas, Kendall Garrett of Macon, Georgia, Jackson Garrett of Plano, Texas, Jonathan Martens and Blake Martens both of Colleyville, Texas; sisters, Norma Steedman of Savoy, Texas, Sue Stoner and husband, George of McKinney, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

After her birth in Oklahoma, Lou’s family soon moved to Texas where she would live for most of her life. She joked that she may have been born in Oklahoma, but got to Texas as fast as she could. She was a graduate of Whitesboro High School where she played many sports and was a baton twirler. After high school, she lived in Austin for several years which began a lifetime love of her beloved Texas Longhorns.  She also lived in the Dallas area and then Plano where she met Jon. She had a long career managing dentistry and orthodontic practices.  After living in Plano for many years, they settled back in Austin for 14 years where she continued as an orthodontic practice manager and she and Jon cheered on the Longhorns at football, basketball and baseball games, and all things related to Longhorn sports. She also enjoyed family gatherings, playing Spades, shopping, Taco Bueno, listening to Charles Stanley preach, spending time with the elderly, and probably most of all, talking sports!

Her grandchildren were the center of her world and she made it to as many of their sporting events as possible. “Mimi” was their number one fan, and sharing in their love of sports brought her so much joy.

Lou was a devout Christian with a strong faith and a loving heart, and was a member of the Celebration Sunday School class at Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano.  She surrendered her life many years ago to Christ, gaining strength and comfort from her faith as she faced health issues and limitations in the latter part of her life. When she accepted her time on earth was coming to an end, all she could talk about was that she was ready to meet Jesus, her Savior and Lord, face to face. Lou was ready! And now that she is in Heaven, I know she would say to us all: “If you’re not ready, get ready, because YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS ALL THIS!!!"  She would do anything for anyone and cared for her family, especially her husband, with unending love and devotion. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 3:00 pm, St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas 75093, with a reception to follow immediately in Piro Hall near the sanctuary.

The family asks that you please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in memory of Lou.
