Wanda Jean (Newman) LaFollett, age 90, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Jean was born on August 15, 1932, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the daughter of Othol E. Newman and Cecelia (Graf) Newman. She grew up in Hugo, Oklahoma, and graduated from Hugo High School. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma, and Grayson County College in Denison, Texas. Jean married Johnny LaFollett in 1980. They made their home in Frisco, Texas. Jean worked at Austin College in Sherman for four years, Grayson County College for fifteen years and for Collin County Community College in McKinney/ Plano/ Frisco for fourteen years.
Jean has been a member of the National Secretaries Association in Sherman and a member of the Women’s Association at Grayson County College.
Jean was lovingly adored by her three children and fondly known as MeMe to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean’s smile, laughter, and love for people was contagious. She would light up a room with her presence. She loved to read, dance, travel, and her favorite passion was shopping.
Jean is survived by her son, Randal Ray McMillin of Graham; her daughters, Terry McMillin Waggoner and husband, Roy, of Bowie, and Sharon McMillin Ledson of Frisco; her grandchildren, Jennifer Winterburn and husband, Dan, Melissa Waggoner Cheney and husband, Jacob, Chase Smyth and wife, Erika, Tiffany Curtis Gill and husband, Bryon, Megan Curtis Gonzalez and husband, Clark, and Cameron McMillin; her great-grandchildren, Alex and Bree Winterburn, Parker and Paxtyn McMillin, Jalen, Carson and Cooper Cheney, Izabella, Braydin, Landyn, Grayson, and Gavyn Gill, Isaac and Theodore Gonzalez, and Sutton and Salem Smyth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny LaFollett; her parents, Othol and Cecelia Newman; her brothers, Coy Newman, Leslie Donald Newman, and Buddy Newman; and her sisters, Geraldine Newman, Donna Newman Guthrie, and Mary Newman Norris.
The funeral service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will follow at Williams Cemetery in McKinney, Texas.
