Walter Zbikowski, 90, of Wolfe City, Texas entered into life as son of Frank Robert and Alice Berryhill Zbikowski, in Victoria, Texas, February 24, 1930 and entered into rest May 3, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.
Walter had a servant’s heart. He served honorably for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and one year in the Reserves. Walter later worked for Union Carbide as a re-claimer of oil and gas in Port Lavaca, Texas from which he retired. He served as an adult leader of the 4-H club for many years. With his servant’s heart Walter was led to serve the Lord in many capacities including his ministry as a Deacon in The Church of Christ in Leonard, as well as a Bible School teacher. Walter became known as the “Candy man”. He loved children and enjoyed seeing their eyes light up when he dished out candy. He kept it tucked away in his pockets at all times.
Walter is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ruth Zbikowski of Wolfe City, Texas; sons, Allan (Theresa) Zbikowski of Caddo Mills, Texas, and Kenneth (Derrellene) Zbikowski of Thorndale, Texas; stepsons, Danny (Cheryl) Riley of Whitewater, Texas, and Stephen Riley of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Kathy(Allen) Polonsky of Victoria, Texas; stepdaughter, Rose Ann (Neal) Noey of South Paris, Maine; grandsons, Brian Zbikowski, Jeremy (Misty) Edwards, Wayne Zbikowski, Thomas (Marci) Zbikowski, Timothy Zbikowski, Matthew (Catherine) Noey, and Brad McQuigg; granddaughters, Crystal (Jonathan) Gregg, Jennifer (Billy) Allen, Julie Baker, Virginia (Chris) Dixon, Amanda (Mikel) Duke, Wendi (Jake) Medley, Dian Hill, Tina (Todd) Liston, Kelynn (Cody) Duckworth, Sarah (Kaitlin) Fox, April (Stephen) Self, Tricia (Chris) Reno, Tiffany Fox, and Karen Cowser; sister, Rosalie Carroll of Inez, Texas; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nephew, Milton (Kathy) Carroll; niece, Bettie (Jack) Garrison along with numerous extended family members and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Ann Zbikowski; son, James Walter Zbikowski; daughter, infant baby girl; sister, Effie Stella Scherer; great-grandson, Corey Dale Baker and his parents, Frank and Alice.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at The Church of Christ. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4-7 pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard, Texas. There will be a committal service with military honors at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 8, 2020 at Greenlawn Gardens in Port Lavaca, Texas.
