IN LOVING MEMORY

Walter Yoshiharu Sakawye

Feb 09 1941 - Oct 24 2023

Walter Yoshiharu Sakawye, 82, passed away on October 24, 2023, in Plano, Texas. He was born February 9, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Annabelle Akiko Tanaka and Paul Hajime Sakawye.

In the midst of World War II, his family forcibly left their home, business, and belongings and were detained at Manzanar War Relocation Center in California for four months.

Walter served in the National Guard for six years, then chased his true passion—mechanics.

Walter’s affinity for cars and mechanics started at a young age when he took apart and reassembled his first engine at 16. He found joy in working, owning an automotive shop and later working for Harley-Davidson for 25 years. Colleagues remember him for his mentorship, resolute work ethic, and integrity. His immaculate spaces were second to none both in the shop and at home.

Walter wasn’t a man of many words, but his quick-witted humor and love-centered actions spoke volumes. His family affectionally remembers his love for green tea, miso soup, and sashimi. Walter’s daily uniform consisted of a black Harley-Davidson t-shirt or hoodie, depending on the weather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Connie; daughter, Shelly Townsend and husband, Brett; three granddaughters: Allie Bills and husband Josh, Sydney Townsend, and Landry Townsend.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Roy Kazuaki Sakawye.

The memorial service will be an open house, held from 2-4pm on November 25th, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1020 N. Lake Forest Dr. McKinney, TX 75071
