W. H. Buchanan

Willis Hopwood “Buck” Buchanan, 99, passed away August 19, 2023, at his residence. He was born on March 8, 1924, to the late Houston Buchanan and the late Annie James Holley in Richardson, Texas. W.H. married Margie Reeder, November 28, 1942 and they had 78 beautiful years together. W.H. was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19. He served in World War II in the infantry. He went from France, crossed the Rhine River, moved up to Berlin, fought at the Battle of the Bulge, and ended up in Schmitt, Germany. He came home with several awards for his efforts including: A Victory Medal Award, Expert Rifleman Award, and the Combat Infantry Commendation Award. W.H. was honored to serve his country.

W.H. was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his sister, Janie Holley Coker of Littlestown, Pennsylvania; children, Linda Taraba and husband, Adolph, and Gwen Alford; grandchildren, Alan Taraba (Bobbie), Tim Taraba (Susan), Brent Taraba (Kristi), Cary Whaley (Jason), Shary Henderson (Danny), Lori Jones (Wayne), Melissa Rushing (Bill), Cody Buchanan (Valerie), Clint Buchanan (Jessica), and Douglas Alford (Cindy); twenty-four great grandchildren; and nine great–great grandchildren; and a host of loving friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margie Reeder; son, Gregory Buchanan; parents, Houston Buchanan and Annie James Holley; step-dad, Fred Thomas Holley; son-in-law, Gene Alford; brother, Douglas Buchanan; and sister, Virginia Buchanan.

Family will welcome guests for a visitation from 6-8 P.M., Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 701 North Cedar Street, Leonard, Texas 75452. A service for W.H., officiated by Jeremy Bassett, will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, August 25, 2023 at the funeral home. Following the service, there will be a procession to Restland Cemetery for the burial at 2 P.M.

Pallbearers for the service are Tim Taraba, Brent Taraba, Douglas Alford, Dwayne Alford, Clint Buchanan, and Cody Buchanan.
