Vonda Sue Harmon

On Wednesday June 29, 2022, Vonda Sue Mahan Harmon, loving wife and mother of two, passed away at 5:45 AM. She was 81 years of age.

Vonda was born as a twin May 2, 1941, at 7:00PM to B. J. and Chloa Mahan in Westminister, Texas. She grew up on a farm northwest of Blue Ridge and had a palomino mare which she rode daily with her twin sister. She was an avid horse lover. She had an older brother, Olin (Buck).

She graduated high school at Blue Ridge High School in 1959. She worked at Continental Insurance in Dallas until 1962. She married Ronald Harmon in 1961 at Blue Ridge, Texas. She raised son, Barry Keith and daughter Rhonda Lynn. She was active as a Room Mother and in the PTA and was active in any school function with the young people. Vonda cared for any body in need. She was shy but very caring and always a Lady. She complemented others and never said a bad word about anyone. She was a founding member of the Blue Ridge Ridding Club and rode there every time there was an event. Her picture of “running the barrels” was on the west wall at the Cattlemen’s Café for many years. She served a term as secretary to the Blue Ridge Cemetery Association.

She was an active member of the Church of Christ at Blue Ridge and a strong supporter.

Vonda was preceded in death by her father, B. J. Mahan, and her mother, Chloa, and her brother, Olin Othell (Buck). She is survived by husband, Ronald, son, Barry and wife Karen, and daughter, Lynn and husband Kelly Hendrex, and sister, Verna Williams and husband Charles. She is also survived by granddaughter, Kelsey Bates and husband Justin and great-grandson, Anson Bates, and grandson Kale Hendrex, and close sister-in-law Brenda Womble and husband Glendon and close sister-in-law Linda Mahan and many nieces and nephews.

She expressed her thanks to all her many friends and caring “care givers” for their prayers and thoughts.

Her church family did a drive by happy birthday for her during covid and Sunday, they did a congregation “Get Well” soon on Zoom while she was in the hospital.

Visitation will be Tuesday July 5, 2022, at 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home, 107 Washington St., Farmersville, Tx 75442. Funeral will be Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the same location. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Cemetery following the service.
