Vonda Lee McClain, 84, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at her home in Allen, Texas.
Vonda was born on November 7, 1938 in Houston, Texas to Woodie Marie (Morris) Thompson and Isaac Daniel Thompson. She was the youngest of four daughters and she grew up and attended school in Houston, Texas. She married her husband of 64 years, Guy McClain, on June 7, 1958.
They had three children – Rhonda, Kevin, and Lisa. Vonda was an excellent wife, mother, seamstress, hairdresser, and cook. For many years Guy and Vonda owned their own business, with Vonda as the bookkeeper. Vonda later worked at JCPenneys corporate office, where she retired after 20 years.
Vonda was known for being the life of the party. She had an infectious laugh and a smile that lit up the room. She loved being around people, playing games, and telling jokes. If you knew her, you couldn’t help but love her.
The highlight of her life was spending time with her family as a caring Mother and Memaw, and her family absolutely adored her.
She loved God with all her heart and enjoyed going to church. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved singing in the choir. She was also on the hospitality team at church and enjoyed greeting folks with a smile and warm welcome.
Vonda is survived by her husband, Guy McClain of Allen, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Stanwix and husband, Scott of Allen, Texas; son, Kevin McClain and wife, Leah of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Lisa Bailey of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Stanwix and wife, Lori of Prosper, Texas; Ryan Stanwix and wife, Kelsi of Rowlett, Texas; Lindsey Rhoads and husband, Matt of McKinney, Texas; Hunter McClain and Landon McClain of McKinney, Texas; and Madeleine Bailey of College Station, Texas; great grandchildren, McKinley, Colton, Saiya, Isla, Levi, Ryker, Caden, and Riggs; and sister, Marcella Willhoite of Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Daniel Thompson and Woodie Marie (Morris) Thompson; sisters, Joyce Madden and Norma Barnett.
The celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Central Church, 2301 Premier Drive, Plano, Texas 75075. Visitation at the church prior to the service is as follows: family visitation at 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and friends’ visitation at 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Turrentine Jackson Morrow, 2525 Central expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013, following the service.
