It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Viet Son Pham. Surrounded by the love of his family, Viet passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, at the age of 88.
Viet was born in Ha Dong, Vietnam, on March 25, 1938, to his loving parents, Tran My Vinh and Pham Van Son, a prominent Vietnamese historian and military officer in the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces. He was one of eight children and is survived by his siblings, Mai, Doan, Trang, and Thuong.
After graduating from high school in Vietnam, Viet chose to follow in his father’s footsteps by serving his country with honor and dedication. He proudly served in the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces, ultimately attaining the rank of Major. His commitment to duty, leadership, and service reflected the values that would guide him throughout his life.
Viet met the love of his life, Major Linh Kim Bang, and they married in 1967. He had lived in Vietnam for 52 years and faced many hardships after the Vietnam War. Later Viet and Linh courageously began a new chapter when they emigrated to the United States in December 1990 through the United States Humanitarian Operation Program. They brought with them a rich cultural heritage and an unwavering spirit of perseverance,
As much as Viet loved the country he left behind, he was equally devoted to his family and grandchildren. Raised as the eldest son, he carried a deep sense of responsibility for those he loved. He never hesitated to step aside so that others could advance and achieve, and he would do whatever he could to keep our family united. He embraced the challenges and struggles to create opportunities for future generations. He protected and watched grandchildren grow up and gave them support whenever he could.
His love for the people around him was immeasurable. He taught us the importance of sacrificing for those in need, working hard, and treating one another with kindness—principles that became a guiding doctrine for life. One of his deepest passions was ensuring that our Vietnamese traditions would remain alive and be passed down through many generations.
Viet was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linh Kim Bang. He is survived by his sons, Khanh Pham (Huong), Tri Pham (Phuong), and Victor Pham (Alyssa); his daughters, Victoria Nguyen (John), and Anna Nguyen (Vu). He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Kevin, Dustin, Katheryne, Christina, Peter, An, and Duc; along with numerous other loving family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church, located at 1515 N. Greenville Avenue, Allen, TX 75002. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Viet's life.
