Victor Peter Raymond of McKinney, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2017 at the age of 84. He was born on October 20, 1932 to Frank Columban and Ruth Louise (Holding) Raymond in Erie, Pennsylvania. Vic received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and an MBA from Boston College. Vic met Alice Darwin on a blind date in 1953 and they were married on May 26, 1958, in Erie, Pennsylvania, on the same day that Alice graduated from college. At that time, Vic was working for Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, Ohio. In 1960 he went to work for Raytheon in Boston, Massachusetts, and Vic and Alice moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts, where their three daughters were born. In 1966 he became controller for Cabot Corporation Carbon Black in Boston.
In 1972 he had the opportunity to move to Pampa, Texas, and become the Manager of Cabot Machinery Division, which manufactured mainly oilfield drilling rigs. He moved his family across the country to Texas for what was supposed to be a few years. Vic loved Texas and never left. In 1973 he was made a Vice President of Cabot Corporation. Cabot Machinery Division was sold to Ingersoll Rand in 1980, and Vic retired in October 1994 as the CEO and President of IRI International (Ingersoll Rand-Ideco). Vic and Alice lived in Pampa until 2003 and then moved to McKinney in 2004.
During his time in Pampa, Vic served as Chairman of the United Way, gave many years of service to such organizations as being on the board of trustees of then Coronado Hospital, and the Pampa Chamber of Commerce. He served as vice president of the Pampa Industrial Foundation and of the Pampa Economic Development Corporation. He was instrumental in bringing the state prison to Pampa. He was a past president of the Hidden Hills Golf Association, an advisory board member of Clarendon College-Pampa Center and a past board member of the Pampa Youth & Community Center and of the Pampa Senior Citizens Center. Vic was named Citizen of the Year by the Pampa Chamber of Commerce in 1994 for his volunteer contributions to his adopted home town. In 1995 he was awarded the Community Builder Award by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas.
Vic was a people person and would rather seal a deal with a handshake than a signature on a piece of paper. He spent more time out in the plant than in the office. He traveled all over the world selling drilling rigs to countries such as Iran, Russia, Yugoslavia, Argentina and China. While he enjoyed his job and the community service, spending time with his family and especially with his wife of 59 years was what mattered the most to him. He enjoyed working in his workshop where he spent most of his spare time building, repairing and remodeling everything around him, and inventing all kinds of gadgets. And he did all of this with an infectious sense of humor.
Vic is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Lisa Ann Baird and husband Doug, Cynthia Lee Newton and husband Keith, all of McKinney, and Amy Louise King of Amarillo; grandson, Raymond Tanner Newton and wife Kristin; granddaughters, Victoria Louise Newton, Laurel Ann Newton, Jordyn Leigh Baird and Lainee Louise Garcia; sister, Donna Louise Burrows of Arab, Alabama; nephew, John Rodger Burrows; and niece, Susan Stephenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank C. and Ruth Raymond; and his brother, Frank C. Raymond, Jr.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to either the Salvation Army or the SPCA of McKinney, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
