Deacon Victor V. Machiano was born on August 14, 1948 and passed into eternal life on October 27, 2018. He was diagnosed with colon cancer; his illness was mercifully brief. Born into an insular Italian community in Brooklyn, New York, at an early age Vic’s natural curiosity and love of languages propelled him to be a lifelong learner and traveler. He was a first generation college graduate who also earned a Masters of Theological Studies from the University of Dallas and a Masters of Bioethics from Loyola University. After a career in computer sales and management, Vic served as Chaplain at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was a loyal husband, father and member of the Roman Catholic Church. Vic was a scholar, a gifted teacher and preacher, a wood worker and defender of the poor and the outsider. He was a consolatory minister to the broken hearted. Vic embraced Catholic Social Justice teaching and courageously gave voice to those truths in public and in private. He had an irreverent sense of humor and loved his own jokes. A former “altar boy”, Vic was ordained a Permanent Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church on June 10, 2000. He was assigned to St. Gabriel the Archangel Community in McKinney, Texas where he served until his death.
Vic is survived by his sweetheart of 48 years, Phyliss of McKinney, Texas; his son, Andrew Machiano and fiancee, Angela Joseph of Houston, Texas; god-daughter, Isabella Sanazaro, of Carrollton, Texas, to whom he will always be her loving “Poppy”; brother, Tony Machiano and wife, Camille of North Babylon, New York; brother-in-law, Dick Pirrotta of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; sister-in-laws, Fran Gallo of Miller Place, New York, Mary McCann of Palm City, Florida and Virginia Pirrotta of Palo Alto, California; and nieces and nephews who will also mourn his passing.
Deacon Vic leaves a host loving friends and grateful parishioners.
Vic was predeceased by his mother Pauline and his son, Bradley.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Gabriel The Archangel Catholic Community, 110 St. Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas.
