Vergie Marie Bridges of Allen, Texas passed away on May 13, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born on October 15, 1929 to Clyde Vernon “C.V.” and Sarah (Holcomb) Elliott in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Vergie grew up in Mustang, Oklahoma where she was a 1947 graduate of Mustang High School. After graduation, she moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where she met her husband, Eddie Ollen Bridges. They were married on April 22, 1950 in Lawton, Oklahoma; he preceded her in death on June 4, 2000. Over the years, the family moved over 70 times but she always made it feel like home. In 1970, they moved to Allen, Texas where she was a receptionist at Dr. Vita’s office. Vergie loved to quilt and sent many pillowcase dresses to overseas missions. She also loved fishing, playing chicken foot with her church friends, watching Allen Eagle High School and Dallas Cowboy Football. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Allen, Texas. Vergie was a great wife and mother and will be greatly missed.
Vergie is survived by her children, Cathy Smith and husband, Ronny of Parker, Texas, Rick Bridges and wife, Angela of Windsor, North Carolina, Randy Bridges and wife, Jill of Allen, Texas, and Michael Bridges and wife, Debra of Rockwall, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Bridges; parents, C.V. and Sarah Elliott; four brothers; and six sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Allen, 201 East McDermott Drive, Allen, Texas 75002. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
