Evelyn Taylor entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2021 to be united with her Lord and Savior. She was baptized into Christ as a young woman and read her Bible daily. Her favorite Bible verse was II Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”. Evelyn was a faithful member of Highland Oaks Church of Christ (formerly Garland Road Church of Christ).
Evelyn was blessed to live a long life of 98 years. She graduated from Farmersville High School and married Royal Taylor, her hometown sweetheart, in 1939. Their 72 year marriage experienced challenges early on as a young couple when World War II began. Evelyn vividly remembered hearing the radio announcement of the attack of Pearl Harbor. After Royal was drafted into the U.S. Army, he was stationed temporarily in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where Evelyn found employment at Reliance Manufacturing using her skills as an expert seamstress sewing uniforms for the military. They were truly a part of the “Greatest Generation”.
Evelyn retired from Alcatel (formerly Collins Radio and Rockwell International) in Richardson, Texas after nineteen years of employment. She made communication equipment for NASA used in space travel, including the moon landing, and voice communications systems used in the Viet Nam War.
One of Evelyn’s greatest loves was time spent together with family. She will be greatly missed by daughter, Myra Gordon and husband Bill of Houston; son, Ben Taylor and wife Laura of Royse City; three grandchildren, Shea Gordon and wife Shannon of Frisco, Anastasia Parks and husband Alex of Keller, and Jacob Taylor and wife Stephanie of Terrell, all who affectionately called her “Grandmother”; and five precious great-grandchildren, Avery and Grayson Gordon, Clayton and Colton Taylor, and Austin Parks.
Other survivors include her cousin Jean Bartlett of Ft. Worth, sister-in-law Shirley White of Dallas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by parents Bessie and Joe Alsbrooks, her husband Royal Taylor, and sister Patsy Martin.
The family wishes to thank Lakeland Hills Senior Living community which provided a caring home for Evelyn in her later years. Special appreciation goes to Debbie Leach who provided personal healthcare assistance to Ms. Evelyn.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1:00PM with a graveside following at 2:30PM at I.O.O.F. Cemetery
