Van Buren Welch

Van Buren Welch of Plano, Texas passed away March 15, 2023 at the age of 91.  He was born on April 17, 1931 to Martin Welch and Irma (Coon) Welch in Lamesa, Texas.  Van was a 1948 graduate of Lamesa High School.  He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, then returned to earn his bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1956. He married his college sweetheart, Kennie Lou Jackson, on June 10, 1957 in Anton, Texas.  He had a long and successful career spanning nearly 40 years with the Travelers Insurance Company, and upon his retirement enjoyed gardening, grilling, and spending time with family.  He also loved watching old western movies and cheering for his beloved Red Raiders. Van was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Plano, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.  He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Kennie Lou Welch of Plano, Texas; daughter, Susan Bell of Plano, Texas; sons, Marc Welch and wife, Marsha of New Braunfels, Texas and Steve Welch and wife, Carolina of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Jordyn Bell, Camryn Bell, Daniel Welch, Michael Welch, Keren Welch, David Welch, and Amy Craft; and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Kent Welch and wife, Peggy of Lubbock, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Van was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Irma Welch and sister, Eva Webb.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
