IN LOVING MEMORY

Torchianna "Torchy" Thompson

Oct 05 1938 - Jun 13 2018

Torchianna “Torchy” Thompson of McKinney, Texas passed away June 13, 2018 at the age of 79.  She was born in Dallas, Texas on October 5, 1938 to William Stringer, Sr., and Juanita Hill Stringer.  Torchy graduated from North Dallas High School with her future husband, Bob, in 1956, and attended North Texas State University.  On August 23, 1958, Torchy and Bob were married in Dallas, Texas.  Torchy and Bob enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Bob passed away in 2012.  In 1966, the Thompson family moved to McKinney, Texas.  In 1968, they built a home that Torchy lived in until her death.  For 50 years, Torchy’s McKinney home was a gathering place for family and friends.  The Thompson home was a place to have fun, watch games, swap stories, eat, drink, and be happy.  Everyone was welcome and everyone got a hug.  Torchy made the house on Hill Street a home for everyone who walked through the front door.

Torchy was a great citizen of McKinney.  She spent many years in the Garden Club, enjoyed investing money with her High Rollers’ Stock Club, and played tennis for many years at Eldorado Country Club.  She was a constant presence at ballgames and concerts, supporting her children and her beloved grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nana”.  Torchy and Bob loved McKinney, and especially their very large group of wonderful friends.  Everyone looked forward to Supper Club when Torchy’s turn came around.

Torchy is survived by her son, Bob Thompson and wife, Michelle of Richardson, her son, Scott Thompson of Grapevine, her daughter, Tori Fults and husband, Tracy of Dallas, her sister, Deloyce Matlock of McKinney; grandchildren, Torchy Adams and husband, Austin of Dallas, Travis Thompson of Los Angeles, Sam Franklin of McKinney, Laura Thompson of McAllen, and James Fults of Dallas; and many more loving relatives from her very large family.

Torchy was preceded in death by her father, William Stringer, Sr., her mother, Juanita Hill Stringer, her brother, William Stringer, Jr., and her grandson, Rhys Thompson.

The family will host a celebration of Torchy’s life on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at 1605 Hill Street in McKinney, Texas.

The family recommends that memorial donations be made in Torchy’s honor to the North Texas Food Bank (www.ntfb.org).
