Tommie Edwina Walden

Tommie E. Walden, 94, went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2012.  She was born May 8, 1918 to Edgar J. Walden and Katy Florence (Jones) Walden in McKinney, Texas.  Tommie attended McKinney schools after which she graduated from North Texas Teacher's College in Denton, Texas.  After a brief time of teaching in McKinney and working at the local newspaper, she entered the Women's Army Corp. during World War II.  She was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and later deployed to the European Theatre in Frankfort, Germany where she attained the rank of First Lieutenant.  After being discharged in 1945, she worked for the Veteran's Administration in McKinney and in Dallas, Texas. She was an Educational Therapist until her retirement.  She resided in DeSoto, Texas until 2001. Later, she moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina and resided at Clarebridge Assisted Living until her death.

She is survived by her niece, Jerrie Robison Bradshaw of Lewisville, North Carolina; great-niece, Audrey Bradshaw Curtin (Geoffrey) of Winston-Salem, NC; great-nephew, P. Allen Bradshaw (Janie) of The Woodlands, Texas; great-nephew William Bradshaw of Conroe, Texas; nine great great-nieces and nephews; two great great-great nephews.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jessie Walden Robison (Oral "Sport"); brother, John Bailey Walden; nephew, Charles R. Robison (Blanche); niece, Elizabeth Robison Hammontree (Curtis); great nephew, Bobby Joe Bradshaw, Jr.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas.
