The life of Thomas Randall Mann (Randy to the cool kids) was tragically cut short on March 4th following a sudden heart attack. He was 65 years young.
Randy a loving husband, father of two, and grandfather was born on June 9th, 1957, to Thomas and Dolores Mann in Austin, Texas. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1976, he went on to study architecture at University of Texas San Antonio.
Randy began his work life in the family business, Mann Construction, kicking off over 40 years in Construction Project Management. Randy’s career would take him to all but two of the United States including building for Skipper’s Seafood in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, Black-Eyed Pea restaurants in the South, and JCPenney and Container Stores all over the country.
In 1986, he met Karen Coleman (luckiest day of his life) and they wed on June 13th, 1987, going on to have two children, Thomas Randall Jr., and Molly Katherine. Together they lived in San Antonio, TX, Portland, Oregon and for the last 30 years, Dallas, Texas.
Though Randy was a Construction Manager by trade, he was an artist at heart. His creativity in woodworking, metal crafting, renovation and painting made him a true renaissance man. He had the talent to rebuild and reimagine a house into a home. From the sky he painted in the ceiling of the game room, to the barrel-ceilinged deck and outdoor living room addition he crafted, Randy had the vision and expertise to completely transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. He was a world class Papa to grandson Liam, teaching him the importance of really big fires in really small chimineas.
Randy, the oldest of 8 children, is predeceased by his parents, Tom and Dolores, and brothers Larry and Steve. He is survived by his wife Karen; his stepmother Alice; his brothers David, Kenny and John; his sisters Suzanne and Cindy; his two children Thomas and Molly; and his grandson Liam.
We request that all of you join us in celebrating Randy’s beautiful life at Avalon Legacy Ranch, 2022 Wayside Trail, McKinney, Texas, 75071 on Tuesday, March 14th at 4:00 PM. Tex-Mex buffet and cocktails to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to the American Heart Association in honor of Randy Mann at My Giving Heart.
