Thomas Francis Stumpf, loving husband of Carol Cannon Stumpf, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and loyal friend went to heaven on January 8, 2022, at 81 years of age after a short battle with cancer.
Tom was born on August 11, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Jack Stumpf and Josephine Taylor Stumpf. He worked part time jobs while attending Leo High School before pursuing a degree in marketing from Loyola University Chicago. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he served our country as a Captain in the US Army.
Following his time in the military, he began his lifelong career in marketing and worked with many well-respected companies including Braniff Airlines, American Airlines, Neiman Marcus, Greyhound Lines, Conoco Oil, and Fleet Capital with his strong ambition. Tom’s career led him to Dallas where he found many enjoyable years working at Cooper Aerobics Center as the VP, Director of Marketing. His likable personality and lighthearted manner helped him make close friends wherever he went. He was full of jokes, both good and bad, and kept us laughing no matter what the situation.
Tom always had a positive outlook on things knowing that God was at his side. His strong Catholic faith knew no bounds and he influenced both family and friends as he lived every day in a Christlike manner. After retirement, Tom found time to become an active volunteer at his parish, All Saints Catholic Church, in the food pantry and also participated in eucharistic adoration. Every day he prayed the rosary, read the Bible, and recited the Divine Chaplet with such zest, that we all know he is watching over us from heaven.
In addition to reading the Bible, Tom was passionate about reading anything he could get his hands on which put him on a first name basis with everyone at several public libraries in the area. He kept track of all books he had read since 1990, which totaled 2,626 and almost one million pages.
Tom was serious about working out and could be found at the Cooper Aerobics Center gym several times a week. Jazz music was very important to him, and Frank Sinatra was often playing on his vintage stereo at home. His interest in cars was as intense as anyone’s and he could talk for hours on the subject. Tom really enjoyed tinkering with his vehicles over the years, and they were always the most spotless cars on the road.
He is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Laura Barnett (Josh); stepsons Jon Cannon (Yvonne) and Dave Cannon (Laura); precious granddaughter Zoë Cannon, his best little buddy; sister Carole Klein (Mark); nieces Carolyn Lagatutta (Chris) and Julie Kilmurry (Kevin); and nephew Kurt Klein (Linda).
Tom was one of the best people to ever walk the earth and will be missed by all who knew him.
A mass in celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church located at 5231 Meadowcreek Drive, Dallas, Texas 75248.
