Thelma Jean Sims passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born March 9, 1931 to Benjamin Franklin Skinner and Grace Pinion Skinner in Westminster, Texas. Thelma Jean married J.C. Sims of Blue Ridge, Texas, on July 13, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma. The couple had one child, Ricky Lee Sims. She was of the Church of Christ faith. She is preceded in death by her husband J.C. Sims, father Benjamin Skinner, mother Grace Skinner, sister Glenderl Reed, brother James Skinner, and brother Thermon Skinner, among other relatives and friends.
Most people knew her as Jean or Jeannie. She expressed her devotion to family and exemplified Proverbs 31. Jean was not only a mother to Ricky, but also to his classmates and friends. She always showed hospitality and grace. As a strong, passionate lady, she taught Ricky and others virtue and respect. Along with hard working hands, she worked in the home and on the family farm. She gave of herself to neighbors and friends in need. When Ricky married his wife Edie, she showed compassion, tenderness and became a mother and friend to Edie and those who shared in their lives, including those fostered by Ricky and Edie and countless relationships throughout the years. Words cannot express the deep devotion she had and the lives she touched. Although for the last few years she was unable to converse while in the nursing facility, Jean had an incredible impact on those who cared for her and those who entered the facility. Through her entire life, she showed the value of everyone with her sweet, gentle spirit.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Blue Ridge Cemetery at 2:00PM, with a visitation one hour prior to the graveside service.
