A Funeral Service for Mrs. Theda V. Compton Lacy, 98 year old Celeste resident, is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 27, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Celeste. Burial will be in the Hogeye/Celeste Cemetery near Celeste. Family viewing and visitation will be Saturday October 27, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Pallbearers will be nephews: Ken McCarley, Chuck McCarley, Dean McCarley, Steve Compton, Kevin Compton, Larry Compton, Doug Compton and Mark Compton.

Theda was born June 29, 1920 at Celeste. Her parents were Monroe and Jewel Compton. She graduated from Celeste High School in 1939 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Celeste. She loved playing basketball and was on the widely known All State Team of 1937. She also loved to play golf at Webb Hill, travel and just go somewhere. She married William Carl Lacy July 31, 1948 at Dallas. She and Carl would have the nieces and nephews visit from time to time and really enjoyed entertaining them. She retired from the Post Office somewhere around 1970. She was a very generous and caring lady and she will be missed by all. Theda passed away Wednesday October 24, 2018 at the Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville.

Theda is survived by two sisters, Thelma Edwards of Austin and Peggy McCarley of Blue Ridge and a brother and sister-in-law; Billy M. “Buddy” and Novella Compton of Greenville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Theda was preceded in death by a sister, Helen McGuffey and three brothers, Mike Compton, Buster Compton and James Compton.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made in Theda’s memory to the Hogeye/Celeste Cemetery Association, the Celeste High School Scholarship Fund or the First Baptist Church of Celeste.
