IN LOVING MEMORY

Sydney "Syd" Allen Blocher

Aug 08 1933 - May 04 2022

Sydney “Syd” Allen Blocher, age 88, of Prosper, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.  He was born August 8, 1933, in Thompsonville, Michigan, to Geraldine (Mallison) and Samuel Harrison Blocher.  Syd grew up on the family farm in Michigan then joined the Navy in 1951 immediately after graduating high school.  He served honorably aboard aircraft carriers during the Korean War and completed his service in 1960.  He met his future wife, Dolores Cordova, while stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM and following their courtship, married in February 1958.  They made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico where Syd worked for government contractor EG&G in a variety of leadership roles, ultimately retiring in 1992.  Syd loved gardening, tinkering and and fine wood working.  He completed many furniture projects (of which many pieces still remain in his family’s various homes) and also oversaw the design and construction of their dream house in the mountains of New Mexico.  Syd was also a loving and doting grandfather.  He never missed an opportunity to tell stories of his grandchildren’s accomplishments, even though many of those tales had some slight embellishments!  In early 2020 Syd and Dolores relocated to Prosper, Texas to be near their family, where he made quick friendships with new neighbors and would often be seen swapping stories and telling jokes.  Syd lived a full and joyous life and often said he had no regrets!  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Syd is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores Blocher; his son, Sydney Blocher Jr. and his wife, Wendy; his daughter, Stephanie Haworth and her husband, Sherman; his treasured grandchildren, Noah Blocher and Madelynn Blocher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and Samuel Blocher, and his sister, Sharon Russ.

The funeral service will be held at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas, on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be at DFW National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 10:15 a.m.
