Suzanna Challyn (Boles) Meilahn passed away peacefully on June 30, 2021 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 78 years and 10 months. She was born on September 19, 1942 to Chalmers Morton and Helen Irene (Zink) Boles in Borger, Texas, and was fiercely proud to be a native Texan. Sue met William “Bill” Meilahn in Panama on November 20, 1965. It was love at first sight for both of them, and they were married a mere five months later, on April 9, 1966 in Cortez, Colorado.
Sue graduated from Texas Tech in 1964 with a degree in Education. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority in college. She taught grades K-3 in Colorado, the Canal Zone schools in Panama, Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and Arizona. Sue was very adventurous, gregarious, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was once selected as the “Pinto Bean Queen of Montezuma County” and, while in Panama, labeled “Sweet Sue, the Belle of Balboa.” Sue and Bill loved traveling and lived and worked in 23 different locations in the US and 3 foreign countries. Her children were born in Colorado, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and Arizona: She always enjoyed supporting her kids' and grandkids' various activities. Sue was a member of the Red Hatters Club and always active in the ladies’ organizations and other ministries in her churches. In her adult life, Sue was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is deeply missed by her husband, Bill; daughter, Kathleen Marie of McKinney; son, Carl William and wife, Amber of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Meilahn-Fowler and husband, Rich of Clear Lake, Texas; daughter, Ann Helen of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; granddaughter, Katelyn Meilahn of Denver, Colorado; grandson, William Meilahn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Kristen Meilahn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson, Walker Meilahn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson Jesse Fowler of Clear Lake, Texas; granddaughter, Stephanie Fowler of Clear Lake, Texas; granddaughter Alena Meilahn of McKinney, Texas; sister-in-law, Suzy Boles of Tiburon, California; and brother, David Boles of Montgomery, Texas.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Chal and Helen Boles; brothers Logan and Andrew Boles; and sister-in-law Kaye Boles.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the USO at https://secure.uso.org/donate, the American Heart Association, or to any other charity of your choice.
