Susan Carol (Strickland) Neibel, of Carrollton Texas, died November 6, 2020 after a 30 month battle with cancer. Susan was a beloved wife to her husband, Steve, and mother to her two sons. A graduate of Baylor University, Susan pursued a career in ICU Nursing working in many hospitals in the Dallas area, planning and opening two hospital ICUs, teaching nursing in both a hospital and academic setting, teaching ICU skills, CPR and Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) and finally, serving as a school nurse. After retiring from nursing, Susan developed a strong love for art, becoming proficient in both colored pencil and oil painting. In her last weeks she learned water color painting and painted a few pictures for family and friends.
Susan loved the Lord and was heavily involved in international church mission work. She personally participated in missions work in Cuba, Jordan, Uganda, Kenya, China, Philippines, Israel and Sudan. She actively supported many missionaries, directly and indirectly, while serving on the mission board at her church. Susan loved people, all people, and had a heart for the sick, the poor, the persecuted, and especially children. Susan served as the sponsorship director for an orphanage in Sudan after a mission trip there, raising funds for the orphanage and finding sponsors for specific children in the orphanage.
Susan, while having a life cut short, certainly had a life well lived. She will be missed by hundreds of those she loved and served over the years. Surely, she was welcomed into the arms of her Savior as a “good and faithful servant” and now intercedes for all of us that she has left behind. For all of those who provided love and support to us over the last almost 30 months, we offer our sincere thanks and eternal gratitude. Collectively, you all helped to carry her along this difficult journey and placed her into the arms of her loving Lord, Jesus.
Susan is survived by her husband of 40 years, Steve Neibel; son, Timothy Neibel of Carrollton, Texas and son, David Neibel; daughter-in-law, Michelle Neibel and two grandchildren, Noah and Wyatt of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her mother, Doris Jean Strickland and her sister, Sherry (Strickland) Hibbert of Houston, Texas, and by her father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Patricia Neibel of Frisco, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Shelby Strickland.
