Susan Kay (LeFan) Suter, age 51, of Frisco, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 21, 2021. She was born on February 17, 1970, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Carolyn Kay (Hartman) and James Phillip LeFan. Susan obtained her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The University of North Texas in 1992 and devoted the rest of her life to teaching music. On June 22, 1996, she married David Michael Suter in Bedford, Texas. They met through their mutual love of teaching band and in their 25 years of marriage remained committed to touching lives through music. After 10 years teaching both High School and Middle School bands in the Dallas Ft. Worth area, Susan and David were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Alyssa. At that time Susan decided to leave the classroom to raise Alyssa and became a piano teacher in her home. Three years later they welcomed their son, Phillip, into the family. Susan will leave a lasting legacy of music on not only her children, who also share her musical gifts, but the many students she loved and inspired over the past 29 years. In addition to her passion for music, Susan loved cooking and anyone who has ever had one of Susan’s gourmet creations knows she was a wonderful chef.
Susan is survived by her beloved husband, David Suter; her talented daughter, Alyssa Kay Suter; her amazing son, Phillip Michael Suter; her mother, Kay LeFan; her sister and best friend, Carolyn (Marty) Holboke; and sister, Paula (Tim) Kurecka. She is also survived by her nieces, Katelyn (Captain Zachary) Palisch, Madison Holboke and Samantha Kurecka; her mother-in-law, Judy King; father-in-law, Jack King; sister-in-law, Debbie (Rod II) Smith; nephew, Ryan Smith; and niece, Emily Smith. Also, her loving, cuddly Maltipoo, Beau!
She was preceded in death by her father and hero, James Phillip LeFan; her brother, James Paul LeFan; father-in-law, Jesse Suter; and grandparents, Lt Col. Thomas Leonard and Margaret Antilley.
Susan was so very proud of her kids, Alyssa and Phillip, and all of their accomplishments, especially their musical achievements. Alyssa is the Head Drum Major of the Wakeland High School Marching Band and an Oboist and English Horn performer in the Wakeland High School Wind Symphony. Phillip is currently a Freshman trumpet player in the Wakeland Marching and Symphonic Bands and was a two-time All-Region Band member and Bandsman of the Year at Cobb Middle School. Susan left an indelible impression on Alyssa and Phillip who both plan to pursue careers in music.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the establishment of “The Susan K. Suter Wakeland Band Memorial Scholarship” which will help one senior band member a year pursue their dreams in a career in music. Donations can be sent to the Frisco Education Foundation, P.O.
