Sueko (Nakama) Hoff, a resident of Melissa, Texas passed away September 6, 2024, after a valiant fight against cancer, at the age of 75. Sueko was born on May 21, 1949, to Heisaburo Nakama and Yoshi (Oshiro) Nakama in Kin-son, Kunigami-gun, Okinawa, Japan.
Sueko married the love of her life, Lee John Hoff, Jr., on July 21, 1972, in Okinawa, Japan. Over the years, Lee and Sueko created countless joyful memories, in many states and countries, while raising their children, Lee J, Lisa and Lena.
Sueko’s life was filled with rich and varied interests. She brought beauty and joy to everything and everyone she touched. Sueko appreciated the details and history that came with antique collecting; Ikebana flower arranging and cooking, sewing and arts and crafts, and she loved making things with her own hands to share with others. But most importantly, Sueko received much joy from spending quality time with her family and friends.
After the passing of her husband Lee John Hoff Jr., Sueko made her life with her children in between Texas, New Mexico, Okinawa, Japan and Naples, Italy. After many years of traveling between states and countries visiting her children, she decided to reside in Melissa, Texas. Not only was Sueko an incredible mom, but her favorite job was also being a Bachan (grandmother) to 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Sueko enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook, and about her Okinawan culture. She enjoyed many trips with her sister Masako Simpson and no one could surmise the trouble the two would get into. Sueko relished her weekly game of Hanafuda with her sister and her friend Toshiko Roady but mostly treasured their monthly luncheon with numerous Japanese friends to catch up on the all the gossip about their children, grandchildren and memories from Okinawa.
Sueko is survived by her loving children, Lee J. Hoff III., of Melissa, Texas, Lisa Hoff (Sergio Maldonado), of McKinney, Texas and Lena Jeffries (Don), of Northlake, Texas; granddaughters, Kyla Jeffries, of Lorain, Ohio, Liz Maldonado, of Allen, Texas, Aarin Jeffries, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Yaretzi Maldonado, of McKinney, Texas, and Cristina Hoff, of Destin, Florida; grandsons, Dagoberto Maldonado, of Laredo, Texas, Enrique Maldonado and Sergio Maldonado, Jr., both of McKinney, Texas, James Jeffries and Donius (DJ) Jeffries, II, both of Northlake, Texas, and Sean Hoff, of Destin, Florida; great grandsons, Davier (Davi) Jeffries, of Northlake, Texas, Levi Rich and Marshawn Rich, of Lorain, Ohio; great granddaughters, Julia Rich and Kamylie Rich, of Lorain, Ohio; step daughter, Jourdan Powers (Jackie), of Sedona, Arizona; sisters, Masako Simpson, of Melissa, Texas, and Teruko Asato, of Okinawa, Japan; brothers, Kotoku Nakama, Toshio Nakama, and Tokuichi Nakama, all from Okinawa, Japan; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Sueko was preceded in death by her parents, Heisaburo and Yoshi Nakama; and her beloved husband, Lee John Hoff, Jr.
Sueko is loved by many, and her loss will be felt by everyone she has ever touched. We take comfort in knowing that she is with her family that preceded her and is free of the burden of the disease that stole her from us. We will cherish all her memories and will miss her dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
