Stephen George Wieck, 75 years old, passed away on February 17, 2022 in McKinney, Texas. Steve was born on March 19, 1946 in Canyon, Texas to Joe and Viola Wieck. He grew up in Umbarger on the family farm and graduated from West Texas State University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He married Katherine Lynn Fish in 1968, and they raised their three sons, Joe, Scott, and Doug, in Amarillo until 1987 when he relocated to Katy, Texas. He spent most of his accounting career in the oil and gas industry before working as Vice-President and Controller at Corestaff Services in Houston until his retirement in 2009. He and Lynn relocated to McKinney, Texas in 2018.
Steve was an expert machinist and gunsmith. He enjoyed the challenge of target shooting and was the national champion in 50-yard benchrest rifle competition in 1997. He was a founding member of the American Rimfire Association and was a pioneer in rimfire shooting. Many of the guns he produced are still being fired in shooting competitions all over the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willie. Surviving Steve are his wife, Lynn; three sons: Joe and wife Tehra, Scott and wife Haydeé of Austin, and Doug and wife Anissa of McKinney, Texas; three grandsons, Lincoln, Beckett, and Oslo of Austin; two sisters, Bonnie Toothaker of Amarillo and Dorothy Wieck of Golden, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Wieck of Dumas, Texas. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
