Stephen M. Westerfield, age 66, of The Colony, Texas, passed away September 3, 2022. Steve was born March 21, 1956, in Big Spring, Texas, to Paul Lynch and Glenda Ophelia (Shoemaker) Westerfield. His parents decided after his father was out of the military to move the family (older brother Paul and his younger sister Lee) to Gruver, Texas, in the panhandle where his paternal grandparents lived. He graduated high school from Gruver High and went off with a friend to Dillingham, Alaska. After two years in Alaska, he came to Carrollton, Texas, and lived with his mom’s sister Becky and Uncle Syd Pitzer. Syd trained him in the lawn service, which Steve picked up quickly and decided to branch out on his own. He owned his company for several years and decided he needed to settle down with a job and a pension! He worked in Public Works with the City of The Colony. He then met and married Judi Robb on April 16, 1988, in The Colony. They had two daughters, Heather (Ramsey) and Amanda (Danzeisen). He worked for The Colony for 30 years and retired. He also became a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT for seven years. They did a lot of training which he loved! He even got to repel off the Water Tower on S. Colony Blvd. and did a lot of training at the Lewisville Fire Training building. He had his share of putting out house and field fires as well as the transporting of patients and doing rotations at several hospitals and at many local fire departments. Once he retired from the city, he needed something to do before turning 65, so he went to work with his wife, Judi, at Dean Technology, Inc, in Addison, Texas. He made so many wonderful friends in the six years he was there in which he retired again in March 2021.
Steve’s love of his life was his dog, Kitty, as he always jokingly commented to Judi! He was a big prankster with a dry sense of humor who loved to play jokes on everyone even up to his last day. His daughters, their husbands and other family member became perfect targets! Steve lived a full happy life and was always smiling, laughing and making other people laugh. He was SO quick witted and always had a one liner to throw out there! He liked to brew and drink beer and loved to teach anyone that wanted to learn how to brew. He enjoyed filming for seven years at Wolfe City, Texas, high school football games with his brother-in-law Coach Mike Smith. As well as going to watch Wolfe City football games, his daughters’ soccer games and band concerts, going to and watching NASCAR races, baseball games including Frisco Rough Riders, Texas Rangers, Wolfe City baseball, and any type of history, especially Texas, Civil War & WWII. He loved all of John Wayne’s movies, the last one he watched was his favorite “Hell Fighters” and his family can’t forget his favorite all time movie, Quigley Down Under! His favorite type of music was George Harrison, the Beatles of course, George Strait and Toby Keith.
He is survived by his wife, Judi Westerfield; daughters, Heather Ramsey and husband, Andrew, Amanda Danzeisen and husband, Ross, and Stephanie Westerfield; grandsons, Jesse Ramsey and Wade Ramsey; mother, Glenda Shoemaker; sister, Rebecca Lee Smith and husband, Mike; niece, Jane Kretschmer and husband Sam; great-niece, Gracie; nephews, Aaron Smith and wife, Connie, and Ryan Smith and wife, Jade, and great-niece Raylee and great-nephew Baker.
