IN LOVING MEMORY

Stephen "Steve" Robert Staggs

May 06 1951 - Jan 21 2024

Stephen Robert “Steve” Staggs, age 72, of Little Elm, Texas passed away on January 21, 2024, in Frisco, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marsha Staggs of Frisco, Texas; his daughter, Stori Zicchino and her husband, Richard of Frisco, Texas; his son, Todd Staggs and his wife, Ashtyn Anderson of Portland, Oregon; his four grandchildren, Logan Staggs, Ren Staggs, Reese Zicchino, and Ruby Zicchino; his sister Melinda McGuire of Denver, Colorado. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Roberta and Robert Staggs; his sister, Laurie Hebener; and his brother, Jeff Staggs.

Steve was born on May 6, 1951, to Roberta Marie (Erb) and Robert Worley Staggs in Anchorage, Alaska. He grew up the oldest of four siblings in Bellflower, California. He was an adventurous child, climbing on roofs, riding his bike all over town until dark, and playing every sport he could. However, his most beloved pastime was baseball. Steve graduated from Bellflower High School and went on to Cerritos Junior College where, before he could finish, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals, making his boyhood dream of becoming a major league baseball player come true. He made his MLB debut on July 1, 1977, playing for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Texas Rangers, hitting a home run his first career hit. He was traded to the Oakland A’s in 1978 and retired from baseball later that year.

On August 21, 1975, Steve married Marsha Lynette Lester in Omaha, Nebraska. They had two children; Stori in 1977, and Todd in 1979.  They spent the next several decades following and serving the Lord in many different capacities; an adventure of a different kind that took them all over the country and lasted up until the moment Steve left this earth for his heavenly home. Steve’s patient, kind, and calm demeanor, combined with his unparalleled love for his family and his relationship with the Lord, truly made him one of a kind. He will be missed immensely.
