Stephen “Skippy” Joseph McGrade Sr. of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the age of 97. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. He is deeply mourned and will be greatly missed. His loved ones are comforted by the knowledge that Skippy and his son, Stephen, Jr. are reunited and with their Lord.
He was born on August 5, 1924, in Astoria, New York, to Anna Grant and John Joseph McGrade. Stephen had a career in the commercial construction business as a steam fitter. He married the love of his life, Marion Theresa Fitzpatrick, in Astoria on June 26, 1949, and they were blessed with two children.
Before the birth of their children, Skippy and Marion moved to Port Washington, Long Island, NY, where they raised Kathy and Stephen, Jr., and made their home for over 40 years. In 1995, they moved to Frisco, Texas, to be near their grandchildren, Patrick and Sarah. As residents of Frisco for 26 years, they were members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and were active in programs at the Frisco Senior Center.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Marion McGrade; his daughter, Kathleen Tiberia and her husband, Joseph, of Leland, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Patrick McGrade and his wife, Samantha, of Temple, Texas, and Sarah McGrade of Frisco, Texas; and his daughter-in-law, Denise McGrade, of Frisco, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his son, Stephen Joseph McGrade Jr., one sister and five brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas, on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment follows at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, Frisco.
