Stephen Charles Matthews of McKinney, Texas passed away on April 3, 2019 at the age of 74. He was born on June 4, 1944 to Charles C. and Gwendolyn (Harger) Matthews in Omaha, Nebraska. Stephen grew up in Omaha, where he graduated from Benson High School in 1962. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in engineering and his Master’s degree from the University of Colorado - Boulder. Stephen was a project manager in telecommunications and information technology working at Northern Natural Gas, Enron, EDS and was currently employed at Capital One. He married Nancy Sue Daniels on December 13, 2008 in Paris, Texas. Stephen enjoyed aviation, early Ford V-8’s and was a member of Cushman Scooter Club of America. He was an avid Ham radio operator and volunteered with the Minuteman Disaster Relief Group of McKinney and pioneered the CERT Program of McKinney.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Nancy Matthews of McKinney, Texas; children, Lori Garman and husband, Bob of Clive, Iowa, Rob Matthews of Pasadena, California and Jackie “Bubba” Davidson and wife, Kandace of Paris, Texas; grandchildren, Ali Garman, Lane Garman and Kyndal Davidson; brother-in-law, Dick Parrish; niece, Mahli Blowers; nephew, Mark Parrish; and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gwen Matthews; and his sister, Maureen Parrish.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will be officiated by Jackie Davidson and Daniel Hines. Pallbearers for the service are Rob Matthews, Bob Garman, Lane Garman, Mark Parrish, Mark Fangio, and Jimmy Hubbard. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. Friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday, April 4, 2019 to pay their respects and sign the registry book.
