IN LOVING MEMORY

Stephen Bruce Horton

Nov 07 1948 - Feb 18 2023

Stephen Bruce Horton (Steve) of McKinney, Texas passed away in his home on February 18, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born on November 7, 1948, to Oscar Thomas Horton and Juanice Bruce in Graham, Texas. After a happy boyhood spent with family in Graham, Steve’s family moved to Midland, Texas. He graduated from Midland High School in 1967 and married his high school sweetheart Rhonda Fay Ware in 1968.

Steve had successful careers in both the travel industry and as a distributor then regional sales manager for Mac Tools. His work took him to live in California for many years, then eventually brought him back home to Texas. Never one for idleness, after retiring Steve worked diligently managing rental properties and volunteering with the Coast Guard Auxiliary (retired). He was also an active member of the Lone Star Corvette Club.

Over the years Steve had many passions. Steve loved fast cars and auto racing. He helped coordinate Mac Tools’ NASCAR racing programs while leading the fan festivities from the family RV. Steve loved boating (and later sailing) and spent many vacations with his family fishing and water-skiing on the lakes of Texas. Steve loved tennis and could regularly be found on the courts in Corpus Christi playing or watching from the side lines. Steve also loved traveling the world with his family and friends, attending tennis tournaments and seeing the sights of Italy, France, and beyond. Above all else though, Steve’s truest love was for his family – his entire family both near and far, by blood or by friendship. Many of those reading this are probably already missing his phone calls. The loss we are feeling reflects how much he loved us and wanted to stay connected with us. He will be dearly missed.

Steve is survived by his wife, Rhonda, daughter Angela Holt, and son Cort Horton, along with their spouses, four grandchildren, and many cousins, family members, and dear friends. The family will be holding a small gathering by invitation for family and close friends to celebrate his life.
