Ms. Stella Louise Moon was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 17, 1942. She resided in several locations in her early years and graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Houston, Texas in 1960 where she was the recipient of many awards including the prestigious Foreign Legion commendation for high scholarship. Ms. Moon received a full scholarship from a Houston law firm to attend Hardin-Simmons University and graduated with high honors in 1965. Following her collegiate graduation, Ms. Moon commenced a brief but important phase as a secondary school teacher in the Plains, Texas Independent School District. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Moon began a long career in Federal service with the Social Security Administration (SSA) of the United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).
During her career with HHS, Ms. Moon traveled throughout the nation working with individuals, organizations and entities responsible for administering to the general public. Her initial SSA office base was in Fort Worth, Texas but she was reassigned to the Dallas, Texas SSA office after a few years. She later transferred to the SSA office in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she notably worked in administrative affairs organizing conferences and meetings for prominent individuals involved in the health-related field.
Ms. Moon was a highly intelligent professional. She brought quiet, capable performance to every area of endeavor from her years as a high achieving student in high school and Hardin-Simmons University to her career retirement from the Social Security Administration in 2000 following thirty years of service. Ms. Moon's superlative intellect was swiftly recognized in every area ventured and she was consulted to complete complex assignments on a routine basis. She brought a keen sense of what the task needed and developed a path to resolution for even the most difficult assignments.
Stella L. Moon was a dedicated, caring person who demonstrated a generous and kind consideration of others. She would, at times, extend assistance to others even at personal cost to herself. This aspect of generosity was not limited to just individuals but to organizational entities as well that were affiliated with benevolence-based projects and activities.
Ms. Moon’s interests were both wide and varied. She was an avid reader and was well versed on a variety of subjects that enabled her to discuss diverse topics with ease. Her curiosity was infinite, and she delved into a variety of subject matter with both determination and analytical ability.
Stella Louise Moon will be greatly missed by everyone who ever knew her for her keen wit, sense of detail and an understanding of the broader framework of numerous topics. Ms. Moon achieved distinction in her educational and career endeavors. She was committed to do what was right regardless of the consequences and diligently championed a path of honesty, purpose and pursuit of truth wherever it may be found. Ms. Moon was a rare and unique combination of high intelligence and sincere personal commitment to helping others. She was self-made, who from modest origins, fought the good battle throughout her life and prevailed.
Her legacy will remain with the many lives she touched throughout her life. Anyone who met Ms. Moon did not forget her and her place among the rarified strata of high achievement will not be forgotten. She was a unique, one-of-a-kind person who gave of herself greatly whenever needed. Those she touched during her life’s journey will ensure her remembrance in perpetuity.
