IN LOVING MEMORY

Stanley Gordon

Mar 07 1943 - Nov 05 2020

Stan was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 5, 2020. He and his twin brother, Steve, were born on March 7, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Walter and June Gordon.  The family also lived in Missouri and Alabama before settling in Dallas. After graduating from high school in Alabama, Stan obtained his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Kansas University. He later achieved an additional master’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.  Stan had a lifelong love of learning and also completed some doctoral work at the University of Texas at Dallas. Stan’s career as a statistician and economic forecaster in the business world included working at Anderson-Clayton Foods, Southland Corporation, Trane and Dell. He also enjoyed working in higher education at the University of Texas at Dallas, from where he later retired.

Stan had a love of Honda cars and had read the entire collection of Louis L’Amour novels (some books more than once). He had a great sense of humor and loved puns, which earned him the title of “pun meister” in our family. He enjoyed watching Western TV shows and movies as well as cheering on his favorite college teams – the Alabama Crimson Tide football team and the KU Jayhawks basketball team. Stan loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work and taking walks in the neighborhood. He was a fine Christian man who had been a member of First Baptist Church of McKinney since 2001. Stan loved helping animals and people and supported both animal and charitable organizations. Our family pets through the years were very dear to him. Stan’s merciful and kind spirit is a legacy that our family will always treasure.

Stan was preceded in death by both of his parents, both sets of grandparents, and his half-brother, Walt Gordon. Left to treasure his memory is his loving family: wife, Martha; daughters, Katie and Julia; and grand-daughter, Alina.  He is also survived by his much-loved siblings - brother, Steve; sister, Phyllis; and, several nieces, nephews, and cousins and their families.
