IN LOVING MEMORY

Sonnia Ann Mahar

May 20 1935 - Feb 07 2022

Sonnia Ann Mahar was a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. She departed this world suddenly and is now at peace in her heavenly home.

Sonnia was born to Dutch and Margaret Dresia in Miami, Oklahoma on May 20, 1935.  She attended Northeastern State University where she met the love of her life, John. They married soon after and began their beautiful journey of 66 years together. They had two girls, Kelley and Kristie. Over her many years, her family grew to include her son-in-law Andrew, her beloved grandchildren Briar, Maggie, Dylan, Cameron, Christian, Trevor, Keelan, Emma and Juliet, and her great-grandchildren Ivy, River and a third who will soon join us. She is also survived by her younger brother Frank and his wife Becky, and many other loving family and friends.

Sonnia’s world revolved around taking care of her husband, girls, the large family of grandkids, great-grandkids and, of course, her devoted dogs and horses. Anyone who knew Sonnia could see the abounding love she poured into her family and the way she extended her gracious spirit to each person in a special way. She was a magnet, possessing a beauty, grace and warmth that drew so many, human and animal, to her. This was her gift which stemmed from her steadfast love of Christ. She has been our rock and our compass just as the Lord has always been hers. She was a devoted member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas for over 40 years.

While those who loved her are overcome with sadness at her passing, we take solace in knowing that she welcomed the day she would meet her Lord, and see her beloved mother and father again. We know that the pain of our earthly loss will one day be erased by the eternity we will share together.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Prestonwood Baptist Church, Faith Chapel, 6801 W. Park Blvd, Plano, Texas, 75093, followed by a reception in McKinney. Interment is to be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery in Eufaula, Oklahoma.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday afternoon, February 13, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas, 75033. Super Bowl attire welcome!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA of Dallas or the Allen Animal Shelter to honor Sonnia’s tender bond with animals (SPCA- SPCA.org/give; Allen Animal Shelter- (214) 509-4378).
