Sidney Rée Renfro, 79, passed away on May 30, 2017 at Grand Brook Memory Care in McKinney, surrounded by her family. Sidney was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, on January 7, 1938. She was the daughter of Avin Williams and Jettye Wilson. She grew up and attended schools in Mineral Wells and Ft. Worth, graduating in 1956. She then attended the University of Texas and SMU, graduating from SMU in 1962 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Sid was a talented cellist and pianist, and played cello with many string quartets and orchestras throughout her lifetime. She married the love of her life, Bobby Ray Renfro, in Dallas, Texas, on April 15, 1961, where they began their life together that lasted for over 55 years.
Sid was a homemaker in Dallas, where she and Bob began their family. In 1967, Bob, Sid and their two boys moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1973 they moved to Orange, California, where they lived for 35 years. Sidney began her career at Disneyland as a project manager, retiring after 18 years. She was truly happy working at “the happiest place on earth”. Bob and Sid spent many years serving their communities and church, and were very involved with their son’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities. Their love for the beach and travel lured them many times to enjoy vacations all across the world. Their bond and love for each other and family was their very core and belief. Sidney was a member of the Newland Street Church of Christ in Garden Grove, California, where she worked with various ladies groups and taught Bible classes. Bob and Sid retired in 2002, moving back home to McKinney to care for Bob’s mother in her final years, and spend more time with their grandkids. They attended High Pointe Church of Christ, where Bob served as a deacon and elder and Sidney worked with ladies groups and hosted many luncheons and dinners in their home. Sidney had a passion and talent for quilting, which she continued to enjoy in her retirement, as well as synchronized swimming with the Mermaids of McKinney.
Sidney was preceded in death by her parents, Avin and Jettye, and her husband of 55 years, Bob.
She is survived by her two sons, Russ Renfro of Dallas and Kurt Renfro and wife Laureen of Huntington Beach, California; Teresa Renfro of Dallas; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Renfro, Trevor Renfro and Jessica Mickleborough; and many extended family members and beloved friends.
Sidney was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother that loved her family and friends. Her love and adoration of Bob and commitment to their marriage was an example to all. She loved serving our Lord and His church for many years and showed what compassion, giving and sacrifice meant. Her love of Missions was evident as she supported many efforts throughout the years. Our family would like to thank the many friends and church family that have shown their love and support for Mom and Dad over these past years. Memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association to help support research for a cure someday.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Highpointe Church of Christ in McKinney, Texas.
