Shirley Earline Goletto, age 83, of Dallas, Texas, passed away April 26, 2018. Shirley was born August 21, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Olin and Maggie (Harris) Haley. She married James (Jim) Goletto on May 2 1977, in Irving, Texas.
Shirley loved to volunteer. She loved books and movies, anything science fiction and was Star Trek’s number one fan. She was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary where she served as President at Post 3359 and a year as District President. Her volunteer work included the VA Hospital bingo, patient special luncheons, holiday events, and a day at the Texas State Fair. She volunteered as the receptionist at the Family Place Women’s Shelter where she won the “Volunteer of the Year Award.” Shirley and Jim owned Goletto Air-conditioning and Heating for many years in Irving, Texas, before retiring to Ben Franklin, Texas. They lived in Ben Franklin until Jim’s death in 1988 after which Shirley moved to Irving, Texas to live with her daughter Denise and grandson Steven.
She is survived by her three daughters, Denise Chastain and husband, Bob Karl of Dallas, Texas, Beth Pollard of Addison, Texas, and Jamie Smith and husband, Richard of Valley View, Texas; grandchildren, Steven Chastain of Midland, Texas, Jacob Smith and wife, Jessica of Palmer, Texas, and Taylor Smith of Gainesville, Texas, Shawn and Gina Karl of Live Oak, Texas; great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Adaline, Nolan, Everly, Blake and Mason; sister, June Halpin of McKinney, Texas; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Goletto, sister, Essie Cannon and brother-in-law, Ed Halpin.
A memorial graveside will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2018, at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.
