Shirley Ann Hobbs, 81, of College Station, TX passed away at her home on July 14, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 12, 1942 in Olla, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, to the late William Fred Burnett and Glen Willowdean Burnett.
After Shirley and Ron's marriage in 1990 they lived in Woodbridge, Illinois before moving to Plano in 1993 and then to College Station in 2015.
She grew up in Olla and graduated from LaSalle High School in Olla and Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she was a member of the Centenary College Choir. She spent a year in Okinawa teaching on a Military base and had the opportunity to do some traveling in the area. Shirley was an Elementary School Music teacher for 36 years, teaching in Shreveport, Louisiana; Glen Ellen, Illinois and Garland and Plano, Texas. She was gifted with the ability to plan and direct great choir programs.
She grew up in the Baptist church, but when they came to College Station, they joined Christ United Methodist Church and have been active members there.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Hobbs and her sister, Janell McAnally, brother, William Fred Burnett Jr. and wife, Linda, and 3 nieces and 5 great nephews.
There will be a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home 2525 Central Expressway North Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the same location. A Memorial service will be held in College Station at a later date.
The family wants to thank the staff of Accent Care Hospice and the nurse at Visiting Angels for their very loving care during her final days.
