Shirley Gladine Blanton

Shirley Gladine Gates Blanton was born October 1, 1915 in Edgewood, Texas to Willis Mattison Gates and Gracie Arzelia (Gates) Gates. She married Roy Glenn Blanton on June 26, 1932 in Kingston, Oklahoma. They were married for 56 years. She died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy, Texas at the age of 97.

Gladine was a retired employee of the Whitewright Public Schools, working as a Librarian for a number of years and later as a Teacher's Aide. She also was a Librarian for the Whitewright Public Library for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitewright.

She is survived by son, James Barrie Blanton and wife Linda of Whitewright; daughter, Shirley G. Mitroff of Sherman; daughter, Priscilla A. Williams Sharp and husband Rev. David Sharp of Allen; grandchildren, Charissa McCollum, Amelia Audish, Charles Blanton, James Blanton; Diane Davis, Jacky Weeks, Sara Andrews, Rachel Bellanca; Kevin Williams, Kent Williams, Keith Williams, and Kerry "Father Kyrill" Williams; 22 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Blanton; 1 great-grandchild; parents, Matt and Gracie Gates; brother, Aubrey "Red" Gates; sisters, Velma Penney and Clevis Watson.

Graveside Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rodney Stanford. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles Blanton, James Blanton, Kevin Williams, Kent Williams, Keith Williams, and Kerry "Father Kyrill" Williams. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 6-8pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.
