IN LOVING MEMORY

Shelley Renae Wall Parks

May 30 1961 - Aug 04 2010

Shelley Renae Wall Parks, a loving mother and a dedicated member of her church, died on August 4, at her home in Plano. She was 49 years old. Shelley was born in Sherman on May 31, 1961, the eldest child of Noel and Nancy Wall. Early on she developed a love for music and for playing board games, which she enjoyed her entire life. As an adult, she was always up for a round of Scrabble (she often kept it in the trunk of her car, just in case), though her family and friends knew that they could beat her only if they combined their scores. Shelley graduated with honors from Lake Highlands High School, where she played the saxophone and was a proud member of the Wildcat marching band. She then attended Texas A&M University, where she had the great fortune to meet William “Bill” Parks, of Tyler. They were married in 1982, and less than three years later, Shelley gave birth to their son, Greg. The couple settled in Plano, and Shelley opened her own home child-care business, which allowed her to touch the lives of countless children and families over the years. She was active in the Plano chapter of P.I.C.K. (Professionals in Caring for Kids) and served as an officer. When Bill died, in 1998, Shelley enrolled at the University of Texas at Dallas, earning a degree in computer science in 2001. She accepted a position as a software engineer at dataVoice International, in Allen, where she worked until her death. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Shelley grew up in the Skillman Avenue congregation and eventually called Waterview Church of Christ, in Richardson, her home. She was a long and faithful servant of God, and she read her Bible daily. Over the years she taught Sunday school, coached the Bible Quiz team, sang at church functions, and belonged to church groups that enjoyed crafts and playing bridge. An expert at knitting and crocheting, she made countless gifts for friends and family. More than anything, Shelley was devoted to her son, Greg, to whom she passed down a love of the church and of music. She never missed a piano recital when he was a boy, or a football game when he was the drum major at Plano East Senior High, or a sermon that he preached as an associate minister at Eastridge Church of Christ, in Rockwall. She loved going on trips with Greg, and over the years they traveled across Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado, with a particular love for Durango. Shelley is survived by her son, Greg, and his wife Andrea, whom she loved as her own daughter, of Rockwall; her mother, Nancy, of Bells; her sister, Noelle and her brother-in-law, Brian, of Sachse; and her grandfather, R. E. Monroe, of Denison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her father, Noel; and her sister Jennifer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the William K. Parks Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 North Waterview Dr., Richardson, Texas, 75080. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2010, at Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas.
