Sharon Kay Durham (affectionately known as Kay) was born May 15, 1959 to Tomie and the late James Durham. She attended Hamilton Park Elementary through Junior High and received her High School Diploma in 1977. She joined First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park under the leadership of Pastor J. Lee Foster and was baptized at an early age. Sharon loved the Lord and joined the J. Lee Foster Choir as a teenager. Sharon loved to usher and was a dedicated doorkeeper. She joined Usher Board #2 and remained faithful until her untimely passing. Sharon had a passion for teaching and caring for people. She worked at Forest Lane Day Care, Baylor School for Children and Preston Hollow Day Care.
Sharon truly spoiled her nieces and nephews and made sure they always had what they needed. She loved working with children and caring for them just as if they were her very own. Sharon was an amazing storyteller and could capture anyone’s attention with the vivid stories she told making you wonder if those stories were real or made up. She would always remember the smallest details and had a giving and sharing heart. For family gatherings, she was the “Banana Pudding Queen” and was the “one person” to bring the potato salad. Very witty at times, Sharon loved to play jokes on people. Her smile was contagious. She loved reading, basketball, football, shoe shopping and hanging out with her sisters.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Tomie Durham; three brothers, Robert, Larry and Calvin; three special sisters, Deloise, Denise and Caroline all of Dallas, Texas; three dear friends, Sheila Wooten, Karine Taylor and Leanice Robinson-Humdy. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park, 300 E. Phillips, Richardson, Texas. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends on Friday evening during the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the church.
