Shaffer Jones

Shaffer Jones, 98, of McKinney died January 1, 2006, at the Homestead Nursing Home in McKinney. The son of Huelett and Fanny Lewis Jones, Shaffer grew up on the farmland originally settled by his father and mother seven miles southwest of McKinney almost a century ago. Shaffer was a graduate of McKinney High School and Arlington A & M, now UT Arlington. Shaffer married Aline Craft of Melissa on January 10, 1932, and the two of them sustained a loving marriage for almost 74 years. After their wedding, Shaffer and Aline moved to Shaffer’s family farm. Shortly therafter, he started building land holdings along what is now Highway 121 and McKinney Ranch Parkway. As the years went by, Shaffer became a very successful farmer, rancher and businessman. Additionally, he was the founder and owner of Jones Grain Company of Allen, Texas. For all their married life, Aline and Shaffer lived on their farm and ranchland. At the age of 15, Shaffer became a Christian and united with First Baptist Church of Allen. In 1955, he and Aline became members of North Baptist Church (now known as Community North Baptist Church) of McKinney, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer and usher for many years. Shaffer also served as executive board member of the Rowlett Cemetery Association and on several other community and agricultural boards and committees. Surviving Shaffer are his wife, Aline, sister Lillian Williams of Richardson, Texas, and several loving nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen with Rev. Danny Buster and Chaplain Harold Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Melissa Cemetery, Melissa, Texas. Pallbearers will be Clifford Jones, George Angle, Don Carter, Steve Mills, Jim Huskey, and Richard Jones.
