Sara Ella Winslett Smith of Allen, Texas, passed away on January 5, 2019, at the age of 89. She was born on July 15, 1929 to Charles and Jennie (Crouch) Winslett in Shreveport, Louisiana. Sara graduated from Fairpark High School in Shreveport. Sara served in Japan during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army from 1949-1952. She married the love of her life, Harvey Smith, Sr. on April 9, 1953, in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling from North Texas State University. Sara taught school in East Texas and Dallas for several years over the course of her career. She spent the remainder of her career working with her husband in various family businesses. She also served in several Baptist churches in a variety of positions during the course of her life.
Sara is survived by her children, Harvey Smith, Jr. and wife, Carol of Allen, Texas, Chris Smith and wife, Kim of Allen, Texas, James Smith and wife, Beth of Cypress, Texas, Oleta Krum and husband, Ted of Kennedale, Texas; ten grandchildren, Lexi Honnas and husband, Henre, Nick Smith and wife, Lenna, Abi Smith, Molly Wilson and husband Sam, Samantha Smith, Julie Smith, Anna Krum, Marcus Krum, Joseph Krum, and Evan Krum; and many more loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harvey Smith, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North in Allen, Texas.
