Sandra Beth Dickinson of McKinney, Texas passed away on August 31, 2021 at the age of 79. She was born on February 26, 1942 to F.A. (Hap) and Edith Opal (Turner) Wilder in McKinney. She married Harlie Edward Dickinson on March 14, 2008 in Plano. Sandra was the first elected female school board member in Westminster. She loved being around family and friends and enjoyed helping others. Sandra knitted blankets and muffs to those in need. She loved sitting outside in the breeze under the pecan tree. Sandra was known as a great cook and you could not go to her house without leaving with something special to eat.
She is survived by her husband, Harlie Dickinson of McKinney; children, Boyd Powell and wife, Martha of Richardson, Boyce Powell of SouthPark, Colorado, Scott Powell and wife, Debra of Melissa, Steve Powell and wife, Kay of McKinney, Buddy Powell and wife, Tamara of Anna, Lyndsey Gammaro and husband, James of Lavon, and Harris Dickinson and wife, Whitney of Plano; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Deena Jan Hansen and husband, Dennis of Loveland, Colorado; nephews, Mike Hansen and wife, Pam, and Matt Hansen and wife, Jenean; mother-in-law, Tennie Ireland of Adkins; sisters-in-law, Sue Monroe, Jeanne Powell, and Louise Dickinson; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charlie Powell; brothers-in-law, Bill Monroe, Tommy Powell, and Robert Lewis; sisters-in-law, Anita Louise and Roxanne Marie.
Family visitation will be Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and extended family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family is aware there are many that will be unable to attend and be assured that we also know how much each of you loved Sandra and that it is perfectly OK for you not to attend. We want you to make decisions that are best for your families. For those that able to come, we request that masks are worn while we are inside.
In lieu of flowers, the family does request that donations are made to the McKinney Fire Department Community Health Program; make checks payable to City of McKinney and in the memo put MFD-CHP program in honor of Sandra Dickinson.
